25/01/18 L/O: To explore the cultural context and overall effect of music videos.

Representation of class

Different types of class are shown though out the video such as lower class of the homeless may and higher class of the business man. The classes are never really represented as being bad but from our knowledge and what we have picked up from stereotypes we interpret the classes differently; for example when the street dancer dresses in 'chavy' clothing is dancing on top of the building it looks as if he is about to jump off, we then see he is actually just happily dancing on top.

We also see one business man walk by a homeless man. We assume we would do the same as he does look slightly threatening and is begging. How ever he returns with a drink and sits with him which is unexpected. I think Cornnie Bailey Rae has done this to show to the audience to be more caring and loving and to help others as if we were in the situation we could want them to do the same.

Representation of ethnicity

In the video ethnicity is show not in the usual ways that we would expect. The ethnic group are wide such as a group of British looking girls who look very angry and are violent towards each other. This kind of social group is one we would be scared of if we walk past. The video doesn't prove them to be kind but is showing we need to let go of all the hate and live in the present as we don't know when our lives will end.

Representation of age

The representation of age could been seen as similar to the representation of ethnicity. The large group of teenage girls look very stereotypically angry, moody and hormonal. Which the video proves is correct as they push each other around and run angrily. Another interpretation of this could be that when the Cornnie Bailey Rae appears the girls have a change of thought and are now angry at themselves for acting in such a horrible. They then run away from who they used to be.

Representation of Cornnie Bailey Rae

Corinne has been represented as an omniscience character that it there to help solve the issues of the people that are experiencing bad things. They don't seem to be aware of her presence till their issues have been solved. it's as if she has some sort of power over them. All of the other people in the video are wearing stereotypical rough clothing, she is the complete opposite and is wearing a red flowing dress. I think she is being represented as some one who once was in the same position as the others in the video but has come our from the other side and now wants to help others. I think this because of the red dress that stands out very obviously throughout the video. Red can be seen and has connotations of sin, guilt, passion, blood and anger which could symbolise what she has already been though but not it may have a different meaning to her, such as love. I think the dress could also be seen as a warning as red is often seen as being a colour of warning. She appears just as someone is about to do something bad. She gives the impression that she is warning them that it would be a mistake to do so.

Representation of the lyrics

Tender is the light that shines on you
Gentle is the morning made anew
Delicate, the grace we've come into
My love
Wonder why you wish your life away
Waiting for the perfect boat to take
Waiting for the perfect wind to sail away

Life's shining around you
Don't miss a day
If you're caught up in the chase
You hold your happiness away from you

Stop where you are
Under fading stars
This is the world we've made
There is no better place, it's true
Light a fire where you are

Underneath a blanket of the cold
Lying in the dark, your seed will grow
Miracles just like a winter rose will be
Give up all the things you can't control
Still yourself and watch them come and go
Wherever you are, you'll find you're home at last

Everything glitters around you
Don't miss a day
The moon on the lake
The smell in the air when it rains
The people you can share with
The feeling you get when you're almost there

Stop where you are
Under fading stars
This is the world we've made
There is no better place, it's true
Light a fire where you are

You can't stop the wild wind roaring
But you can stop my poor heart from calling out
Light a fire where you are

Stop where you are
Under fading stars
This is the world we've made
There is no better place, it's true
Light a fire where you are
